I had an issue and the company stood behind their product.

Below is what happened. EuroSHIRM saw my review and found that my three inquiries were sent to their spam folder. Once they were aware of my situation, they quickly fixed the issue. I recommend buying this umbrella. Thank you for standing behind your product. I can’t wait for the next rainy backpacking trip.

I purchased the EuroSCHIRM Swing Backpack umbrella expecting a high-quality, dependable piece of outdoor equipment. Unfortunately, my experience has been anything but that.

The very first time I used this umbrella was during a backpacking trip where it rained continuously for 14 hours. I was actually excited to finally put it to use. After all, this is a professional trekking umbrella specifically designed for situations like this.

Instead, I spent the day fighting with an umbrella that wouldn’t stay open.

Every time I pushed the slider up, it would click into place as though it had locked properly. Within seconds, the locking mechanism would spontaneously release, causing the umbrella to collapse halfway over my head. I would push it back open, hear it click, and moments later it would collapse again. Over and over.

At first, I was incredibly frustrated. Eventually, the situation became so ridiculous that all I could do was laugh. Here I was, in the middle of a 14-hour rainstorm, carrying an expensive umbrella specifically designed for backpacking that couldn’t perform the single most basic function of an umbrella: staying open.

But as disappointing as the product was, the company’s response—or complete lack of one—has been even worse.

After returning home, I contacted EuroSCHIRM on three separate occasions to explain the defect and request assistance. I received absolutely no response. Not an apology. Not a troubleshooting suggestion. Not an offer to repair or replace the defective umbrella. Not even an acknowledgment that my messages had been received.

I also attempted to contact their U.S. distribution representatives by telephone, without success.

So now I’m left with an expensive, defective umbrella that failed during its very first outing and no apparent way to get it repaired or replaced.

What makes this especially disappointing is that EuroSCHIRM markets its products as serious, high-quality outdoor equipment. People purchase specialized trekking gear because they expect it to perform reliably when conditions are miserable and they’re miles from civilization. That’s the entire reason we’re willing to pay a premium.

Manufacturing defects happen. I understand that. Had EuroSCHIRM simply responded to one of my inquiries and made a reasonable effort to resolve the issue, this review could have been entirely different.
